Sometimes,
it’s a real adventure!
Come
with us as Rick Korian of Cider Mill Construction,
Diane Quinby of Winnipausaukee Lumber, and Captain
Joe Brigham airlift our big 70 foot custom
designed Wood Structures trusses from Lakes Region
Airport in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, to a job site
on the shores of historic Lake Winnipausaukee! |
| With
winds from the west at 5 to 10 knots, Captain Joe
Brigham circles the field.
On
the tow line below his helicopter, Rick Korian's
custom-built 2-point truss transport frame. |
 |
 |
With the
downwash from the helicopter blowing at 40 knots,
Captain Joe comes in for a load.
Heavily
wooded forest on one side and air traffic on
runway 3-0 on the other mean Captain Joe has just
100 feet to maneuver. |
| Workers
at the airport, in constant radio contact with
Captain Joe, scramble to prep a pre-strapped
three-truss bundle for the first-class ride to the
job site. |
 |
 |
The
trusses are loaded by the airport ground crew and
Captain Joe blasts into the sun – and the job
site – proof that our trusses not only hold
roofs up – they’re air worthy too! |
| The
job site is seconds away by helicopter. It is
heavily wooded on three sides. Live power lines
onsite heighten the danger as Captain Joe comes in
to "land a truss". |
 |
 |
Captain
Joe's helicopter kicks up a dust storm on the
periphery of the site.
Here, he lowers his
helicopter and the connected truss with the help
of the onsite ground crew.
The
trusses are unhooked from the transport frame and
Captain Joe heads to the airport for another load. |
| In
the aftermath, Wood Structures Designer Norm Hord
(occluded by thumb), CIO A.C. Mendiones, and
Shipping Manager Rick Bryan contemplate flying
lessons and a new addition to next year's capital
budget!
Our
thanks to Rick Korian at Cider Mill Construction,
Diane Quinby at Winnipasaukee Lumber and special
thanks to Captain Joe Brigham!
